A Logic for Beliefs
نویسنده
چکیده
We present BAF-Logic, a system of logic for reasoning over beliefs held by an agent. In BAF-Logic arguments are formulated for and against believing in a proposition. A series of inference rules may then be applied to deduce the truth of a proposition. Beliefs in the proposition and other related propositions may then be reinforced or eroded accordingly, giving us a powerful tool for defeasible reasoning. Current research on BAF-Logic is also presented. This paper concludes with suggestions for future research.

The Logic of Conditional Beliefs: Neighbourhood Semantics and Sequent Calculus
The logic of Conditional Beliefs has been introduced by Board, Baltag and Smets to reason about knowledge and revisable beliefs in a multi-agent setting. It is shown how the semantics of this logic, defined in terms of plausibility models, can be equivalently formulated in terms of neighbourhood models, a multi-agent generalisation of Lewis’ spheres models. On the basis of this new semantics, a...
متن کاملA simple modal logic for belief revision
We propose a modal logic based on three operators, representing intial beliefs, information and revised beliefs. Three simple axioms are used to provide a sound and complete axiomatization of the qualitative part of Bayes’ rule. Some theorems of this logic are derived concerning the interaction between current beliefs and future beliefs. Information flows and iterated revision are also discussed.
متن کاملA Probabilistic Doxastic Temporal Logic for Reasoning about Beliefs in Multi-agent Systems
We present Probabilistic Doxastic Temporal (PDT) Logic, a formalism to represent and reason about probabilistic beliefs and their temporal evolution in multi-agent systems. This formalism builds upon recent work on APT Logic. It enables the quantification of beliefs through probability intervals and incorporates the concepts of frequency functions and epistemic actions. We show how agents can u...

متن کاملPDT logic: a probabilistic doxastic temporal logic for reasoning about beliefs in multi-agent systems
We present Probabilistic Doxastic Temporal (PDT) Logic, a formalism to represent and reason about probabilistic beliefs and their temporal evolution in multi-agent systems. This formalism enables the quantification of agents’ beliefs through probability intervals and incorporates an explicit notion of time. We discuss how over time agents dynamically change their beliefs in facts, temporal rule...
متن کاملA New Logic of Beliefs: Monotonic and Non-Monotonic Beliefs - Part 1
We present here a new formalization of beliefs, which has a simpler semantics than the previous formalizations, and develop an inference method for it by generalizing the resolution method. The usual prepositional formulas are embedded in our logic as a special type of belief formulas. One can obtain a non-monotonic logic of beliefs by applying, say, circumscription to the basic belieflogic dev...
